Living with Dad Alone 父母分居的日子( 續）
My first sister was born when I was four years old. My mother couldn’t take care of two children on her own, as she also needed to work. So I was sent to my father, who had been relocated to Hanwang after being labeled as a “black pawn of reactionary capitalist-roader” and publicly denounced during the “Cultural Revolution”. Hanang was a small town with a population as small as 30,000; and was about 100 kilometers away from where my mother and my older sister lived.
我四歲多的時候，大妹妹出生了。媽媽很難一邊工作一邊同時獨自照顧兩個孩子，於是我被送去跟著父親過活。父親在文革中被打成「走資派的黑爪牙」挨批鬥之後，被發配到了當時人口只有三萬的小鎮漢旺，那裏離我母親工作的地方大約有100公里。
I learned later that the dress I was wearing in this photo with my father was hand-made by him. As a matter of fact, all the clothes my two sisters and I had in our childhood were all home made, mostly by my mother. We couldn’t afford to buy factory made clothes then.
我後來聽說，我在與父親的合影中身上穿的帶荷葉邊的連衣裙，居然是我父親手工縫製的。父親的手很巧，除了會縫衣服外，還會打家具。小時候我們家的家具都是他手工打造的。在那個年代，我們家三姐妹穿的衣服都是母親手工做的，我基本上是到了上大學時才開始穿商店裏買的成衣。
